Ex-MotoGP rider Danilo Petrucci is about to fulfill his long-cherished dream of participating in the Dakar on the KTM in the Tech3 colors. But now he has apparently tested positive for Covid-19.
The 44th edition of the toughest rally in the world begins in Saudi Arabia in two days. In order to enable the Dakar to be held in Corona times, a strict Covid-19 protocol would be drawn up, which, among other things, provides for several PCR tests.
For some participants, the desert adventure is over before the start because they received a positive Corona test result – as in the case of Kirsten Landman (motorcycle) and Giniel De Villiers (car) from South Africa.
According to unanimous media reports from Italy, Danilo Petrucci has now also been caught. The two-time MotoGP winner received a first positive response yesterday, leaked Thursday morning. The 31-year-old KTM rider shows no symptoms and is isolating himself in a hotel room until further test results are available.
