Fabrizio Cecchini leaves Aprilia: «need reset»

Fabrizio Cecchini has been working as a technician in the MotoGP paddock for 30 years, and he made a name for himself with the Gresini team in particular. However, he no longer extended the expiring contract.

From the very beginning of the Gresini team, Fabrizio Cecchini was an important man in the racing team of Fausto Gresini, who died in February. Cecchini was already the chief technician at Honda Gresini in the MotoGP class, after which he took care of up-and-coming Moto3 talents such as Enea Bastianini, Fabio Di Giannantonio or Jorge Martin, Moto3 World Champion 2018, for the Italian team.

As part of the joint venture between Gresini and Aprilia, Cecchini returned to the premier class, in 2019 he was scheduled for the Italians from Noale as crew chief for Andrea Iannone, before he was made technical coordinator in August of the same year.

Cecchini did not extend the contract, which expired after the 2021 season. “I need a reset, a restart like the computer,” he said instead. «I want to start new initiatives, always in the paddock. I don’t see anything new in front of me and that’s exactly why I want to wait until an offer comes in that arouses my curiosity, ”he explained to his colleagues at GPOne.com.
