Boet van Dulmen passed away on Thursday at the age of 73. The former driver from Ammerzoden died in a tragic accident.
Van Dulmen was on his way by bike on Thursday when he was hit by a van at the intersection of Onderwaard-Bernseweg. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but to no avail. Van Dulmen had been struggling with poor health for some time.
In the seventies and eighties, Van Dulmen formed a notorious trio with Wil Hartog and Jack Middelburg. The trio was known as ‘The Big Three’. Van Dulmen was known as an excellent driver and also acted as a test driver for several projects. Yet Van Dulmen never drove for a factory team. He achieved his greatest successes as a private driver.
In 1979 Van Dulmen won the Grand Prix of Finland in the 500cc class, two years later he finished second in the TT in Assen. Even at an old age, Van Dulmen still participated very well. In 1985 Van Dulmen was 37 years old when he finished fourth on the TT Circuit. In 1986 Van Dulmen said goodbye to motorsport to focus on running a transport company.
