Without Marc: Alex Márquez fourth in the Fita973 mountain run

Repsol Honda star Marc Marquez had to skip the Fita973 run at home in Cervera on Sunday, while his younger brother Alex held up the flag for the Marquez family.

After a one-year break, the “Fita 973” mountain run was back on the program yesterday, Sunday morning in Cervera. The 973 in the name is of course no coincidence: The number corresponds to the telephone code for the province of Lleida and combines the start numbers of the Márquez brothers (93 and 73) from the motorcycle world championship. The event is organized in cooperation with the brothers’ fan clubs, with Estrella Galicia and Allianz, two personal sponsors of Marc and Alex are also on board.

After the off-road accident on October 30th and the associated visual disturbances, Marc Márquez only recently reported on his social media channels with a training picture from the pre-season, but he still had to do without the running event in his home country. The usual competition between the Márquez brothers on the training routes around Cervera, which Alex won in 2019 and 2020, was canceled this year.

Alex Márquez did well anyway, completing the 10 kilometers in 53:21 minutes, which brought him 4th in the overall standings for this distance. “A slightly different morning that was a lot of fun,” commented the LCR-Honda -Pilot the welcome change in everyday training routine in the preseason.

As a reminder: The regular riders will not get back on their MotoGP bikes until the Sepang test on February 5th and 6th.
