WSS Supersport: Suzuki interested in new regulations – MotoGP

We don’t know yet if the new version of the Supersport will be a success on the track, but it is already a real success in the higher echelons of manufacturers. This is already a good point for the promoter Dorna whose goal was precisely to attract all the sports cars of the market under 1000cc on the starting grid. Yamaha and Kwasaki continue with their 600s, Ducati with a V2 955, MV Agusta with the F3 800 and Triumph with the 765 three-cylinder. KTM is considering a market for its RC8C. And now Suzuki asks…

At this rate, Honda and Aprilia will have to reckon with this vastly changed category. These two brands have yet to say anything about this KTM-tipped topic. But now Hamamatsu, in the neighborhood where Suzuki is located, is all the more interested in the fact that the Japanese manufacturer will soon have the right machine in its range …

And for this bike, the new GSX-R 750 has been announced for 2022. Better, we learn from Speedweek that the FIM has already included this bike in the draft rules, but probably not before 2023. However, this clearly indicates that Suzuki intends to for homologation… The Suzuki 600 has long since disappeared from the European market, and there is no 750 on offer either. However, both models are still available in the United States and other markets.

Suzuki was once a big player in the category

It is recalled that Suzuki has a successful history in the Superbike World Championship. Between 1988 and 2014, 32 victories and 139 podiums were achieved. Australian Troy Corser won the only world title in 2005. In 2010, Leon Haslam became vice world champion. These successes were not due to the factory, but mainly to the Belgian Alstare team, which for many years was the only team to use the GSX-R1000.

In the Supersport World Championship, Suzuki was significantly less present, but the Suzuki riders had ten wins and 46 results in the top 3. The last winner is Barry Veneman at Magny-Cours 2008. We haven’t seen the GSX in recent years – R600 than as a guest, such as that of Luca Grünwald in Most in 2021.
