Soldier Domi Aegerter: “Paradise for professional athletes”

Last week, world supersport champion Dominique Aegerter spent in the Magglingen barracks with the Swiss military. “The support is huge,” praises the 31-year-old Yamaha rider.

In numerous countries, the army, customs, border guards or the police have opportunities to accommodate and promote top athletes. From Monday to Friday, supersport world champion Dominique Aegerter was in Magglingen in the Bernese Seeland for the Swiss Army refresher course. After completing the recruitment school, the Swiss remain divided for nine years and have to attend six refresher courses during this time. The soldiers have a total of 245 days of service.

“It doesn’t have much to do with the military,” said Aegerter SPEEDWEEK.com, who benefits from the sponsorship of top-class sport. “I had time to train every day all week, they have a huge training center here. With the exception of a racetrack, you have everything you need to train here. This is a paradise for every Swiss professional athlete. There are different rooms for strength exercises, endurance, you can swim and relax, there are physiotherapy and massages. The food is also great. “

“We also carried out various tests for my strength and endurance, as well as blood and fat tests,” added the 31-year-old. “That helps me a lot to prepare for the season. So I know in which areas I have to train. The Swiss military supports me tremendously. When I was 20, I always postponed the military because I was afraid I’d have to go into the military for 26 weeks. When I was 24, I graduated from recruiting school and I am very happy about it. The experience and the trainers they have in Magglingen are great. “

Aegerter will be spending the next week at home in Rohrbach in the canton of Bern, then he will go to Spain for the next two to three months. He has a training motorcycle from his Ten Kate team, and in March the Dutch will start testing for the 2022 World Championship, which will begin in April in MotorLand Aragon.
