The Sunday Night Game of the 3rd NFL game day between the Green Bay Packers and the San Francisco 49ers is a long back and forth. Shortly before the end, the Californians take the lead, then comes the big appearance of Aaron Rodgers.
In a dramatic top game, the Green Bay Packers prevailed with 30:28 against the San Francisco 49ers. Jimmy Garoppolo had put the 49ers in front with a touchdown pass to Kyle Juszczyk just before the end with 28:27.
But 37 seconds were enough for Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers to stage a game winning drive. Kicker Mason Grosby converted the winning field goal from 51 yards.
The Packers are clearly leading against the 49ers
In the second quarter it looked like the Packers would win a sovereign victory. Aaron Jones ran from 3 yards into the end zone and increased the lead of the guests to 17-0. But San Francisco fought back.
Rookie quarterback Trey Lance scored the first touchdown for Kyle Shanahan’s team at the end of the second quarter. Brandon Aiyuk and Trey Sermon made for more touchdowns before Juszczyk even gave the 49ers the lead.
Rodgers and Groppolo strong
But Aaron Rodgers proved once again that he is still one of the best quarterbacks in the league. In total, the 37-year-old made 23 of his 33 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns to the man.
His opponent Garoppolo received 25 of 45 litters. The 49ers playmaker had 257 passing yards, two touchdown passes, but also an interception.
Rodgers got support from top receiver Davante Adams, who caught 12 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown. The best pass recipient in San Francisco was tight end George Kittle with seven catches for 92 yards.
Bad start for San Francisco
If they did not hold in the end of the game, the 49ers still have the merit of fighting like crazy. Led 17-0 in the second quarter after touchdowns from Davante Adams and Aaron Jones, they then seem without solutions. Jimmy Garoppolo (25/40, 257 yards, 2 TDs, 1 int) is constantly under pressure (4 sacks) and threw an interception. And the shortage of runner on the San Francisco side is finally starting to be felt (67 yards in total at 3.2 yards / stroke).
But the quarterback recovered. He leads his team to a yard from the opposing end zone. He misses two passes, but Trey Lance enters to conclude on the ground (7-17).
The fight at the end
Back from the locker room, another fruitful offensive for the reds. This time, Garoppolo finds Brandon Aiyuk for the touchdown (14-17).
Green Bay reacts. Marquez Valdes-Scantling (3 rec, 59 yards, 1 TD) marks at the start of the last quarter to widen the gap (14-24). But San Francisco is not giving up. If he made a few mistakes during the match, Garoppolo continues to sound the charge. And his attack will seek a new touchdown (21-24). The Niners even regain the ball quickly, but Garoppolo loses the leather on a sack, which gives a good position to the Packers on opposing ground. An opportunity transformed into a field goal by the visitors (21-27).
San Francisco is not abdicating. With 2mn39 to play, Garoppolo found George Kittle (7 rec, 92 yards) for 39 yards. Then, 37 seconds from the bell, Juszczyk for the hold-up touchdown (28-27). It was therefore without counting on a ruthless Aaron Rodgers at the end of the game.
