The NFL Power Rankings have a new team on the top. The big favorites for the Super Bowl went down surprisingly on Sunday. These are just some of the big changes in the new edition of the Power Rankings.
NFL Power Rankings week 4
1. (2) L.A. Rams
The third number 1 in three weeks. The attack reaches new heights with Matthew Stafford . Yet it was the defense that made the difference in the duel with the reigning champion.
2. (1) Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The first loss since November. The Bucs will have the biggest concerns about the defense. The pass rush has been struggling for three weeks. Stafford was the first to punish it as well.
3. (6) Buffalo Bills
On paper the most complete team in the AFC. The question is how well the defense will play against good attacks. They will therefore not be tested next Sunday against the Texans. Fortunately, it won’t be long before the Chiefs are on the program.
4. (5) Cleveland Browns
Coach Kevin Stefanski called Myles Garrett the best player on the squad. It had to be why, as he chopped the Bears offensive line with 4.5 sacks. With this defense, the Browns are the favorites to win the division.
5. (4) Baltimore Ravens
All attention went to Justin Tucker with his record FG of 66 yards; no more than rightly so. Underexposed is that a team like the Ravens should not be dependent on a late field goal against a team like the Lions.
6. (7) Green Bay Packers
Aaron Rodgers remains Aaron Rodgers. After a dominant start, the Packers let the Niners come back into the game and SF even took the lead. However, 36 seconds without timeouts was enough for the MVP to take the win.
7. (3) Kansas City Chiefs
For the second week in a row, the Chiefs are shooting themselves in the foot. Three trips into the red zone and three turnovers. Still, the Chiefs came back and almost managed to win. The big question is whether the Chiefs can limit the errors in the coming weeks.
8. (8) Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals appeared to be in trouble after a field goal attempt was beaten for a touchdown just before half time. After the break, Kyler Murray put things in order. Even with an unfit DeAndre Hopkins it was a big win for a 3-0 start.
9. (11) Dallas Cowboys
Dak Prescott was extremely motivated to play in front of his own audience again. The Eagles knew it, because the Cowboys dealt a big blow to the eternal rival . In this form, Dak is not only a formidable MVP candidate, but the Cowboys seem to be the big favorites to win the otherwise disappointing division.
10. (12) Las Vegas Raiders
Derek Carr has never played so well. Resulting in an unbeaten start and the lead in the AFC West. The big question is whether the defense can maintain the high level. Monday is in any case an ideal test, because then the team can visit Justin Herbert and the Chargers.
11. (16) LA Chargers
A statement win for the Chargers. Justin Herbert was special and played better than Mahomes. Even when the Chiefs came back, the team remained calm and managed to pull off an exciting game. What an opulence in Los Angeles. Now hope that the fans will also be able to find the stadium on Monday to cheer on the home team.
12. (13) Tennessee Titans
The defeat in week 1 is already forgotten. The Titans seem to have things back on track. Especially by Derrick Henry , who flouts every law. In the otherwise weak AFC South, the Titans can already start thinking carefully about the play-offs.
13. (14) Denver Broncos
Three wins, two in away games. Admittedly against the Giants, Jaguars and Jets, but those victories also count. In last Sunday’s home game against the Jets, the Broncos were forced to start the season 3-0. We won’t see how good the Broncos really are until next weekend with the game against the Ravens.
14. (9) San Francisco 49ers
It looks like it’s a Kyle Shanahan game plan. Start with a smashing attack to hit hard after the break. Against the Eagles it worked, against the Packers almost. It’s not going to be enough for more success. The 49ers need to get off to a better start to really be a playoff team.
15. (10) Seattle Seahawks
For the second week in a row, the attack came to a halt in the second half. Again, a large lead was lost. With division games against the 49ers and Rams on the schedule, things will soon change in Seattle. In the strong NFC West, the Hawks cannot afford unnecessary defeats.
16. (19) New Orleans Saints
The defeat in week 2 against the Panthers must be taken with a grain of salt due to the corona problems. All in all it is a great team, with the defense against the Patriots being the deciding factor. With a good Jameis Winston, this is a playoff team. The question is whether Winston at the Saints can limit those bad days, or whether it remains the Winston from Tampa, who continues to alternate excellent matches with complete failures.
17. (18) Carolina Panthers
The Panthers can’t do much about the simple schedule they’ve been given. They did what they have to do, win three times. Visiting the Cowboys, the Panthers face their first real test. As far as you can speak of that now that CMC is out for a few weeks and Jaycee Horn will have to miss two to three months due to injuries.
18. (26) Cincinnati Bengals
Ja’Marre Chase continues to prove his critics wrong. The connection with Burrow is real. With games against the Jaguars and Lions scheduled in the coming weeks, the Bengals could be in the playoff race for longer than expected.
19. (25) Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings seized what may be their last chance to compete for the playoffs. After two unnecessary losses, Kirk Cousins stood up and won the game with three interceptions. Can they give the Packers a hard time in the battle for the division?
20. (15) Pittsburgh Steelers
Without TJ Watt , the Steelers only managed to pressure Joe Burrow once. As a result, the team quickly fell behind. The attack with Big Ben is not good enough to win matches. So it will have to be a lot better against the Packers not to fall behind the rest of the AFC North very quickly.
21. (17) New England Patriots
Mac Jones had his first down game with three inferceptions, but they weren’t all his fault. The help he gets from his teammates leaves a lot to be desired. The tight ends, in particular, may be able to fulfill their fat contracts. The squad is lucky. At Sunday’s visit of the Bucs, no one will really pay attention to the Patriots, but all eyes will be on Tom Brady .
22. (20 ) Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins made history. Never before had a quarterback completed a pass to a safety. They were expensive points because in the end the Dolphins only lost after extra time to the Raiders. If the Dolphins want to interfere in the battle for the play-offs, they must definitely beat the also disappointing Colts on Sunday.
23. (28) Atlanta Falcons
An important win for the Falcons. They probably aren’t the worst team in the NFC after all. That honor now belongs to the Giants. It is the only highlight of this victory, because it was still not good. Against the Football Team it’s important to keep going as it’s the last chance to make the most of the season.
24. (21) Indianapolis Colts
Who’s going to be blamed for the 0-3 start? Carson Wentz who is clearly not fit yet? Frank Reich who as a coach is responsible for the defeats? Or the GM who traded for Wentz despite all the injury problems? After the game against the Dolphins, we might just get the first answers.
25. (29) Detroit Lions
The Lions keep finding new ways to lose. Of course, Detroit has every reason to be upset about the missed delay or game call . However, the team also has to look at itself. There’s not much they can do about Tucker’s stairs. Jackson’s 4th & 19 seconds before, the Lions should have taken the win there. Still, the Lions are more competitive than expected prior to the season.
26. (22) Philadelphia Eagles
The game against the Cowboys was not as exciting as the 41-21 final score suggests. The hole was much bigger. The Eagles fell short against the divisional rival at all stages of the game and there are still some very tricky matches to come. For example, games with the Bucs, Chiefs and Raiders are on the program in the next four weeks.
27. (23) Washing Tons Football Team
It’s obvious why Washington got Ryan Fitzpatrick . Taylor Heinicke again didn’t have it. A defeat to the Bills was calculated. The way not. The Football Team is not going to win much more this way. There was little left of last season’s vaunted defense.
28. (24) Chicago Bears
If you threw a six-foot wad of paper in a trash can on Sunday, you had more passing yards than Justin Fields . Yet the criticism focuses mainly on the bad plan that coach Matt Nagy had devised. Nine sacks and few plays for Fields’ qualities. It looked as if Nagy had been bribed by Andy Dalton who wanted to keep his spot.
29. (27) New York Giants
According to the Football Power Index, the Giants have had the easiest program to date and have the toughest program remaining. Owner Mara was whistled at halftime during the ceremony for Eli Manning . There is a good chance that heads will roll to improve his prestige.
30. (30) Houston Texans
How hard is it to be a fan of the Texans? A year ago the team still had Deshaun Watson and JJ Watt . As bad as it was that year, there was always hope for a better future. A year later, on Thursday, they have to see how Davis Mills is the starting quarterback. This is not even a reproach to the rookie, because it must be very difficult to make your debut in this squad.
31. (32) Jacksonville Jaguars
Trevor Lawrence played the best game yet until he threw an incomprehensible pick-six. The Jaguars are climbing in the Power Rankings, but it says more about the new number recently than the Jaguars. The Jaguars have already lost eighteen league games in a row. On Thursday they can visit the Bengals.
32. (31) New York Jets
The problem is not that the Jets keep losing, but that they also fail to keep matches exciting. Against the Broncos, the New Yorkers didn’t even score a point. It will be important for Robert Saleh to let his team make rapid progress.
