Pewdiepie under fire for racist comment during livestream

YouTube star Pewdiepie, aka Felix Kjellberg, has come under fire for using a racist term during a live stream.

While playing PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Pewdiepie used one of the most commonly used racist terms, saying he “didn’t mean it in a bad way”.

It is not the first time that Pewdiepie has been associated with racism. Earlier this year, Disney stopped working with him after he came under fire.

Several developers and industry people have expressed their distaste for the issue yesterday and today. For example, Firewatch’s Let’s Play video has disappeared from Pewdiepie’s YouTube channel after Firewatch developer Sean Vanaman criticized Pewdiepie on Twitter. “I’m sick and tired of this kid getting more and more opportunities to make money from products we make. He’s worse than a sneaky racist: he spreads despicable rubbish that does a lot of damage to the culture surrounding this industry.”

Pewdiepie has not yet released a statement on the matter.
