In 2023, the enhanced remaster of Rise of the Triad, fully named Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition, will be released on consoles and PC.
That has Apogee Software, the current licensee of the game, announced. The new version of the remaster was announced way back in 2020, but it has now been announced that the game should be released sometime early next year on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
In 2013, the remaster of the shooter released in 1995 was released, but that version was denounced by fans for various old-fashioned design choices. However, the new Ludicrous Edition should be a lot more modern, with a 4k resolution and 60 fps, as well as a larger field of view, improved textures, a modified UI, achievements and cloud saves.
Players can also choose whether to play with the 1995 or 2013 soundtrack. There is also a new level editor that allows players to design their own levels.
One of the unique aspects of Rise of the Triad was that players could choose from five different characters, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. The shooter was originally created as a sequel to Wolfenstein 3D, but after 3D Realms dropped out, Apogee Software bought the rights.
