XDev, a studio of Sony Interactive Entertainment, is helping Team Ninja with the development of Rise of the Ronin.
XDev producer Jason Stewart made this known on social media. “I’m honored to be working on the exciting Rise of the Ronin title with Team Ninja’s Yasuda-san, producer Masaaki Yamagiwa and our Sony XDev team in Japan.”
Based in Liverpool, XDev has supported other studios in recent years developing games such as LittleBigPlanet, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Heavy Rain, Returnal, Until Dawn and Detroit: Become Human. The company also has a Japanese division, which contributes to Rise of the Ronin.
Rise of the Ronin was unveiled during the State of Play livestream last week. The action RPG is set in Japan at the end of the Edo period. The country suffers from oppressive leaders and deadly diseases, while a war rages between the Tokugawa Shogunate and the Anti-Shogunate. Players control a Ronin – a warrior who has no master and is allowed to make his own choices. People use Katanas and other weapons to fight.
Rise of the Ronin is console-exclusive for PlayStation 5. The game is set to release sometime in 2024.
