Alexander Zverev announced on Friday that his lawyers had started proceedings against “the source and the author who published false allegations” of domestic violence against him.
“I asked my German and American lawyers to take up the case. They have already obtained a preliminary injunction against the source and the author who published these false allegations, ” wrote the German player (24) on his Twitter account. He refers to his former girlfriend Olga Sharypova who claimed to have suffered violence from Zverev and to an American journalist who relayed the accusations.
Last October, Sharypova accused Zverev of having subjected her to several episodes of physical and psychological violence during their relationship which began in September 2018. Zverev has denied the facts from the start and has decided to turn to justice.
“I will not talk about this case any more,” he concludes in this message published a few days before the start of the US Open (August 30-September 12).
Finalist last year at Flushing Meadows, Zverev (4th in the world) won the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo this summer and then the Masters 1000 in Cincinnati. He hopes to win his first Grand Slam title in New York this year. He will play in the first round against the American Sam Querrey (77th).
