Kim Clijsters and Kirsten Flipkens were not at the party at World Team Tennis on Tuesday night. With their New York Empire team, the Belgians lost 24-15 against the Orange County Breakers.
The Belgian duo lost 5-1 in doubles to the American-German tandem Desirae Krawczyk / Tatjana Maria. In mixed doubles, Flipkens, alongside American Christopher Eubanks, also lost 5-2.
Since the start of the tournament, New York Empire has always played with Kim Clijsters in singles, but on Tuesday they switched to Flipkens. She also lost 5-4 to Tatjana Maria in her third game of the day.
New York Empire is last in the standings with two wins and seven losses. The lead is for the Springfield Lasers (6 wins and two losses), for the Orange County Breakers (6 wins and three losses). Clijsters and Flipkens have three more games to go with New York Empire. A place in the final, reserved for the first 2, has become unattainable.
World Team Tennis will take place at the tennis courts in Indian Wells in the United States and run through Sunday.
