If it’s up to Gearbox, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will grow into a complete franchise.
Randy Pitchford, the CEO of Gearbox Entertainment, reported this during an event of Embracer Group, the current parent company of Gearbox (via VGC).
“Gearbox took a big win this year with the release of a new franchise, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. The game exceeded all our expectations, both critically and commercially.” He continues: “We clearly have a new franchise on our hands and are already working on future experiences.”
Pitchford didn’t say if he was specifically talking about DLC or sequels, but since he’s talking about a franchise, it’s likely there are plans to make sequels anyway.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands was released on March 25 on Epic Games Store, as well as on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and also came to Steam later this year. The game lets players create and customize their own heroes and search for loot like in the Borderlands games. You take on the dangerous Dragon Lord and many other monsters in an imaginatively designed game world. Tiny Tina creates this game world and changes the rules constantly. The game features a cooperative playable campaign for up to four players.
The game scored a 7 on Gamer.nl: “Don’t be fooled by the imaginative jacket: Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is simply more Borderlands. There is nothing wrong with that in itself, but we had hoped for a little more wonder. The game is often hilarious , but repetitive fights sometimes ruin the fun.”
