Yakuza 8 has been given a name change. The game is now known as Like A Dragon 8.
That was announced today during a Yakuza livestream by producer Masayoshi Yokoyama. It is not known why the Yakuza name will be replaced, but it was previously reported that Yakuza 8 would be a temporary name.
In Like A Dragon 8, both Kiryu and Ichiban return – both of them star in the game. Yokoyama reports that “the scale of the game is very large, it will be the biggest game (within the franchise) to date. The game revolves around Kiryu carrying his past with him and Ichiban having his future ahead of him.”
Like A Dragon 8 is set to be released on Steam, Windows, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, and Xbox One in 2024, and should once again become an RPG. “We are still recording dialogues at the moment.”
Two more Yakuza games were announced today. A remake of Like A Dragon: Ishin was announced at last night’s State of Play. During the Yakuza livestream this afternoon, it was reported that the game will be released on February 21, 2023. In addition, the spin-off Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name has been revealed.
